Create binaural sessions.
Explore with intention.

Threshold Lab is a desktop audio laboratory for consciousness exploration. Create custom sessions with binaural tones, guided narration, sound beds, and silence. Begin with an included design, use optional AI planning, or build by hand while keeping the session structure and audio layers visible.

The Mac edition supports Apple-silicon Macs running macOS 12 or later. The Windows edition is available for Windows 11 PCs with x64 or ARM64 processors.

What Threshold Lab is for

Focused inner discovery—with the instrument left open.

Threshold Lab is built for self-directed exploration of focused altered states of consciousness: deep relaxation, inward attention, imagery, witness awareness, loving presence, silence, and deliberate return. These are session intentions—not promised results.

Binaural tone relationships create the stereo framework. Guided narration directs and releases attention. Noise, nature beds, intentional silence, and gradual frequency journeys shape the listening environment. You can simply listen, or inspect the prompt, plan, timeline, and rendered WAV to understand and change every choice.

The real application

A laboratory should let you see the instrument.

These nine macOS 1.0.5 captures show the earlier released interface. They illustrate the established workspaces; the newer composition controls are explained in the product tour. Open any image at full size to inspect the controls, structure, and educational detail.

A different kind of listening app

The session is not a black box.

Many audio apps begin and end with a Play button. Threshold Lab lets you listen, then look underneath: timing, narration, tone pairs, frequency journeys, procedural beds, gain structure, fades, and the return path all remain visible.

Begin with a curated Library design, ask AI Lab to propose a structured plan, or author every segment directly. The same application supports the curious beginner and the advanced creator without pretending that one frequency guarantees one result.

Six connected workspaces

Listen, learn, design, observe, and refine in one laboratory.

Each workspace has a clear purpose. Together they form a path from first orientation to precise manual authorship.

01

Protocol

Build knowledge by comparison.

Choose a baseline, calibrate comfort, change one meaningful variable when possible, and preserve a reliable return.

Personal method, not a prescribed progression
02

Education

Understand the sound before changing it.

Seven science-and-practice chapters sit beside a fourteen-chapter guide covering every workspace, control, audio field, and export.

03

AI Lab

Turn ordinary language into an inspectable plan.

A supported provider proposes structured JSON. Threshold Lab validates the result, displays every segment, and performs voice and audio rendering locally.

The provider plans; your computer renders
04

Session Library

Learn by listening and reverse engineering.

Twenty original designs form the included collection across eight families. Every prompt, plan, and description is installed as a readable local file. The complete 90-minute Witness WAV is ready immediately; the app keeps the other 19 visible until you render them.

20 original designs · 60 readable files · 1 included WAV
05

Experience Records

Keep useful observations without being scored.

Optional local records can capture comfort, awareness, return quality, and what you may change next. Nothing is required and nothing is graded.

The human listener remains the judge
06

Session Creator

Author the complete timeline directly.

Build segments, stack binaural layers, write timed narration, choose noise and nature beds, balance the five buses, audition, and export lossless audio.

See every capability

Session anatomy

A guided session is a score, not a single sound.

Time gives the session its structure. Independent layers give it character. Each can enter, change, fade, or remain silent for a reason.

  • Binaural tones define carrier pairs and difference-frequency journeys.
  • Noise and nature provide separate procedural acoustic beds.
  • Voice places visible, timed guidance between intentional silences.
  • Master and fades shape the combined output and session edges.

Education built into the product

The science is explained without turning uncertainty into a sales claim.

Learn why the carrier is not the beat, what conventional EEG band names do and do not mean, how noise colors differ, why channel separation matters, and where evidence is established, mixed, or personal.

Advanced when you want it

Fine control, with plain-language explanations beside it.

Session Creator exposes the signal design without requiring you to begin as an audio engineer.

Procedural noise colors

Shape the spectrum, not a mood label.

Dark brown, brown-pink, pink, brown, white, blue, and violet describe how generated noise energy is distributed across frequency.

Procedural nature beds

Motion without a field recording.

Ocean, rain, waterfall, and stream beds are generated locally and mixed on a bus separate from noise, tone, voice, and master.

From intention to an inspectable master

Create a custom binaural session. Understand each choice.

Start with the experience you want to explore: its duration, tone relationships, narration, sound beds, and moments of silence. Write a brief for AI Lab or build the timeline by hand. AI assistance is optional; its structured plan remains open to inspection.

01

Describe or design

Begin with an intention in AI Lab, open a Library starting point, or build directly in Session Creator.

02

Inspect the plan

Read the Rows timeline and Automation curves. Inspect tone pairs, narration, beds, fades, and the return before listening.

03

Render and audition

Generate narration and procedural audio locally, then balance and test the complete playback path.

04

Export the bundle

Save the lossless WAV with a matching design prompt, portable plan JSON, and descriptive text.

Composition workflow · macOS

Refine a passage. See the change. Keep a way back.

The Mac composition workflow brings shared editing, component inspection, reviewed AI revisions, and recoverable versions together. Shape a session, compare a proposed change, and return to a saved version when you want to try another direction.

Four matching artifacts

The WAV is the result—not the only thing you receive.

The learning bundle makes a finished session easier to study, archive, reproduce, and revise. Each part shares the same descriptive base name.

Witness arrives with all four artifacts and can be played immediately. The other nineteen designs begin with an authored prompt, exact plan, and readable description; rendering adds each matching WAV without relabeling the original design.

An original starting library

Twenty original designs. One finished flagship. Nineteen to render.

Compare short calibration checks, foundational practices, witness sessions, silence studies, return training, loving awareness, variability, and integration. They are starting points for inquiry—not levels the listener must complete.

Every included design installs its authored prompt, exact JSON plan, and description on first launch. The complete 90-minute The Witness at the Threshold WAV is included and ready to play. A persistent progress reminder shows that the remaining nineteen designs still need local rendering and opens the next one in AI Lab whenever you are ready.

A plain data boundary

Local where the sound is made. Explicit where a provider is used.

Procedural audio, narration rendering, playback, profiles, session history, Experience Records, and WAV export are handled on your computer.

AI Lab contacts the provider you select only when you ask it to generate a plan. Session Creator works without an AI request. The Mac App Store edition is designed for user-supplied provider credentials.

Personal without becoming prescriptive

Up to twelve local profiles. Zero required progress scores.

Separate working spaces

Customize names, initials, subtitles, and colors. Each profile keeps its own current session, pinned work, history, voice choice, and saved AI Lab state.

Optional reflection

Experience Records can preserve observations tied to a session version. They never unlock content, gate use, or define personal progress.

Comfortable appearance

Choose light, dark, system, or a custom palette so a long design session fits the room and the person using it.
